Pilot resuscitated after collapsing on bridge
On July 19, 2026, a pilot on the"MSC Maxine", enroute from Rotterdam to Hamburg, collapsed on the bridge while the ship was sailing south of Heligoland. He was resuscitated by his colleague. At the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), a paramedic assisted with the resuscitation. At the same time, the MRCC alerted the Northern Rescue 01 helicopter from NHC Northern Helicopter. The Waterways and Shipping Administration's traffic control center dispatched the multi-purpose vessel "Neuwerk", which was in the port of Heligoland at the time, towards the container ship, as paramedics were on board. They were then transferred onto the "MSC Maxine" via the pilot tender. On board the container ship, the paramedics from the "Neuwerk" took over the resuscitation efforts, until the helicopter arrived. By that time, the pilot had already regained consciousness. He was winched into the helicopter and flown to the hospital. The "MSC Maxine" was then able to continue its voyage to the port of destination.
