Half sunk LCT to be sold

Mon Aug 31 23:28:37 CEST 2026 Timsen

The 'MSCI 1', still located in Subic Bay, has been put up for sale. The vessel underwent drydocking and maintenance in China in December 2025 and remained operational until June 8. The vessel subsequently grounded during severe weather conditions following heavy listing associated with the previous charter's cargo loading. A portion of the vessel was presently submerged in the beaching area during high tide. The vessel was offered for sale with a planned comprehensive rehabilitation/reconditioning program. Upon signing of the MOA (Memorandum of Agreement), the seller must undertake the required works to return the vessel to good operational condition, including renewal/replacement of major machinery, equipment, accommodation areas and other necessary systems, subject to inspection and agreed scope of work. The estimated rehabilitation period was 30–45 days from MOA signing. The vessel will be delivered to the buyer after completion of the agreed rehabilitation works and satisfactory inspection, with the objective of handing over a safe, functional and operational vessel ready for her next employment. Asking Price: PHP 120,000,000 Serious buyers are welcome to conduct inspection and due diligence. For full details, inspection arrangements and negotiation, please contact the seller/broker. Engr. Fishing restricted around sunken landing craft

Wed Jun 17 12:46:19 CEST 2026 Timsen

The local government of Badoc, Ilocos Norte, advised fisherfolk to still refrain from lure fishing, spearfishing, gillnet fishing, gleaning, and other fishing activities within the reef area surrounding the 'MSCI 1' off Barangay La Virgin Milagrosa. The restriction was to remain in effect until the vessel has been removed or authorities have formally issued clearance to resume operations,”the Badoc local government said in light of Oil Spill Bulletin No. 3 issued by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources. Picnicking remained permitted within the vicinity, but swimming and other water-based recreational activities were discouraged as a precautionary measure pending the completion of salvage operations and environmental assessments. Fishing activities had already been limited by the prevailing southwest monsoon before the incident. Consequently, alternative livelihood activities such as shoreline gleaning and tourism-related enterprises, including cottage rentals, snorkeling services, and kayak rentals, have likewise been affected. Inter-agency assistance was provided to the affected 228 fisherfolk families and coastal communities, providing food packs from BFAR and the Department of Social Welfare and Development; hygiene kits and bottled water from the Office of the Civil Defense; and validation activities by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for the possible inclusion of affected fisherfolk in the TUPAD Cash-for-Work Program.

No more traces of oil detected

Sat Jun 13 18:04:50 CEST 2026 Timsen

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has declared that no traces of oil remained along the shoreline and coastal waters of Badoc, Ilocos Norte following the grounding of the 'MSCI1', which has meanwhile sunk completely with only the upper parts remaining vusible, easing concerns among residents and fisherfolk over a possible environmental impact. Swift containment mesures by the PCG Ilocos Norte Station prevented oil mixtures from spreading after the vessel ran aground near Barangay La Virgen. The Coast Guard continued to monitor the area to ensure that no additional leakage occurs and that the marine environment remained unaffected. The authorities said the rapid response helped avert what could have become a larger environmental problem for coastal communities dependent on fishing and other marine resources.
