Houthis claimed attack on tanker

The Houthis have claimed to have hit the 'NCC Wafa' off Yanbu on the Kingdom’s Red Sea coast on the morning of Aug 5, 2026. The claim has not been verified by Saudi authorities or independent maritime sources. The Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree stated that the group had successfully targeted the tanker off the coast of Yanbu with a number of ballistic missiles. They further claimed that this was the eighth Saudi tanker they have hit since beginning their blockade on July 22. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported receiving a notification of an incident in the Gulf of Aden, noting that a ship had reported a nearby explosion. Authorities have launched an investigation, while the UKMTO urged vessels transiting the area to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
