Russian offshore ship struck by drone boat
A Ukrainian unmanned boat struck the Russian-flagged 'Nefrit' on the morning of Sep 3, 2026. At the time of the attack, the vessel was in the port of Sochi. A powerful explosion occurred near the vessel, followed by visible smoke. One USV penetrated the perimeter and damaged the 'Nefrit's port side; a second made an attempt, but detonated before reaching target, likely hit by defensive fire. Subsequent fires were brought under control and crews were safely evacuated without official casualties. The 'Nefrit' was used to support oil and gas operations, service offshore facilities, transport cargo and personnel, and carry out subsea engineering work. Its activities were linked to supporting Russia’s war economy and financing its aggression against Ukraine. The ship had specifically been conducting critical repair work at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium's Black Sea terminal. The strike on the 'Nefrit' was a blow to Russia’s logistics, specialised capabilities, and military-economic infrastructure. In Sevastopol in temporarily occupied Crimea, a BK-16 landing craft was struck, a high-speed Project 02510 transport and landing craft designed to carry and land troops, including on undeveloped shorelines, as well as to perform patrol and counter-sabotage missions. The craft has a full displacement of about 20.5 tonnes and is approximately 16 metres long. Its crew consists of two people, while it can carry up to 19 troops. The craft can be equipped with machine guns and grenade launchers.
