Bulk carrier attacked by drones
On July 24, 2026, the 'New Victory', with 15 people on board, was attacked by five Ukrainian long range FP 1-drones enroute to the Russian port of Taman. It was just 15 minutes away from entering the port when it came under a fierce attack by the Ukrainian drones, resulting in severe damage and injuries to the ship's captain. The vessel's crew comprised of five Egyptians, two Syrians, three Lebanese and two Indian sailors. Despite the damage sustained with the wheelhouse being completely gutted, the ship continued its journey without navigation systems, the crew relying solely on a compass until reaching a safe zone. The Master was receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Russia, while all other crew members were safe and unharmed. On the foremidday of Aug 17 the vessel was towed from its mooring off Kumköy through the Istanbul Strait to Tuzla by the Turkish tugs 'Nazim Tur' (IMO: 9513086) and 'Kurtarma 12' (IMO: 9854404) to repair the damages, where it was delivered at around 5.45 p.m. UTC.
