Grounding off Stockholm

The ' Ocean Surveyor', with 12 people on board, ran aground off Möja in the Stockholm archipelago on Aug 15, 2026, at 1 a.m. enroute from Oxelösund to Stockholm. The survey ship was on its way back to its home port in Värtan in Stockholm after conducting fieldwork in the Baltic Sea. The Swedish Coast Guard attended on site with a patrol boat and inspectors to try to find out why the ship ground occurred. No one was injured. Shortly after lunch on Aug 16, the ship was pulled free from the bottom and anchored in pos. 59° 24' N 018° 54' E, before entering Stockholm on Aug 17. The incident was investigated by the Swedish Accident Investigation Board, and also the Swedish Coast Guard has initiated a preliminary investigation. The 'Ocean Surveyor' was berthed at the Stockholms Reparationsvarv for repairs.
