Two passengers medevaced off Hô Chi Minh City

Mon Mar 23 11:42:24 CET 2026 Timsen

On the afternoon of March 23, 2026, the Vietnam MRCC coordinated the medevac of two critically ill passengers from the 'Pacific World', en route from Singapore to Keelung, for further medical treatment ashore. On the early morning, the MRCC in Hô Chi Minh City received information from the cruise ship and the owner's representative, the Viet Long Agency, regarding a passenger on board suffering from a critical health condition. The 84 years old Japanese national had experienced acute respiratory distress and was diagnosed with severe pneumonia. His condition rapidly deteriorated, leading to acute respiratory failure and requiring intubation and mechanical ventilation. The rescue vessel 'SAR 272', which was on standby in Hô Chi Minh City, along with emergency medical personnel, were dispatched to conduct the medevac. At 10:46 a.m. that same day, the captain of the 'Pacific Worl' reported that another passenger, a 79 years old Japanese woman, was experiencing shortness of breath and requested assistance to disembark for treatment. At approximately 12:20 p.m., the 'SAR 272' approached the 'Pacific World'. Rescue teams, accompanied by medical personnel, quickly boarded the cruise ship, provided initial treatment, and transferred the two individuals onto the 'SAR 272'. At 3:20 p.m. the patients were safely brought back to the dock at the Regional Center III for transfer to a medical facility and further care.
