Greek operated tanker passed Strait of Hormuz

Tue Mar 31 23:17:53 CEST 2026 Timsen

The Greek-controlled 'Pola' has crossed the Strait of Hormuz, marking the fourth such voyage since hostilities in the Middle East began. The Suezmax, which switched off its tracking system in the Persian Gulf on March 10, was detected again on March 30. The ship was sailing in the eastern Indian Ocean near the maritime corridor off the coast of Indonesia’s Sumatra island. Its reappearance indicated the tanker successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz. The tanker, laden with roughly one million barrels of crude, was en route to Thailand. The 'Pola' was the 4th vessel managed by Dynacom Tankers Management Ltd. to make the passage through Hormuz with its transponder switched off since its effective closure.

Pola ventures into Strait of Hormuz despite risks

Wed Mar 04 11:42:23 CET 2026 Timsen

The 'Pola', managed by the Greek shipping company Dynacom Tankers Management was sailing from India through the Strait of Hormuz towards Dubai on March 3, 2026, as tensions in the region were impacting tanker traffic. The tanker set course from India's west coast towards the Arabian Sea and then passed through the Strait of Hormuz heading west. The ship then entered the Persian Gulf, with Dubai as its reported destination. The fact that the 'Pola' transited to Dubai indicated a conscious commercial choice. The Dynacom founder George Procopiou is known for his active market approach in volatile conditions.

Crew safe and device removed

Mon Jan 04 09:21:47 CET 2021 Timsen

A suspicious object feared to be a limpet mine was found attached to the hull ofthe 'Pola' in the Persian Gulf near the city of Basra. The managers of the vessel, Dynacom Tankers of Greece, issued a brief statement confirming the incident and saying that the crew had been mustered and was safe while an investigation was ongoing. It was unknown whether the device found was viable and thus failed to explode or was placed as a 'dry run'. The 'Pola' has been moored at the Kaz anchorage for the past several days south of the Al Bakr Terminal performing ship-to-ship oil transfers. A second tanker, the 'Nordic Freedom', was alongsid when the crew spotted the suspicious device. The crew of the 'Nordic Freedom' assisted in obtaining pictures of the device. The crew followed international protocols and was immediately mustered while port and local authorities were also notified. A brigade of bomb squad from the Ministry of the Interior was airlifted to the port of Fao and dispatched to the ship, in coordination with the Iraqi Navy. Despite strong waves, the brigade managed to evacuate the second ship and continued the deactivation work which was successfully completed on Jan 2.
