Queen Anne will leave Cunard and transfer to P&O Cruises
The Carnival Corporation has decided that the 'Queen Anne', which only entered service in 2024, will leave Cunard in 2029 and transfer to P&O Cruises. At the same time, the 'Arcadia' will go to Holland America Line. Both ships were to be adapted or modernised for their new cruise lines. Both cruise lines belong to the Carnival Corporation, so this is an internal transfer within the group. The 'Queen Anne' was Cunard's first newbuild since the 'Queen Elizabeth' in 2010. With her commissioning, the Cunard fleet grew to four ships for the first time in a long while. The 'Queen Anne' has been scheduled to undergo extensive modifications in 2029 before being deployed for P&O Cruises. Extensive design changes were planned to adapt the ship to P&O Cruises' product and branding. The 'Queen Anne' is designed for approximately 3,000 passengers and would thus be one of the larger ships in the P&O Cruises fleet. After the 'Queen Anne's departure, Cunard would be sailing with three ships again, the 'Queen Mary 2', 'Queen Victoria' and 'Queen Elizabeth', which is an unusual move, because the 'Queen Anne' was only introduced as the fourth "Queen" in the fleet after considerable effort. She was designed specifically for Cunard. Numerous areas on board deliberately referenced the long history of the British shipping company. A detailed explanation for the decision has not yet been provided. The 'Arcadia' is based on the same Vista-class design as several ships in the Holland America Line fleet, including the 'Oosterdam', 'Noordam', 'Westerdam' and 'Zuiderdam'. The Holland America Line is thus acquiring a ship whose basic technical design is already well-known within its own fleet, which grows from 11 to 12 ships. The 'Arcadia' will be refitted and included in thes modernisation program "Holland America Evolution". Various areas of the ship will be adapted to Holland America Line's product range.
