Work boat gutted by fire
On Oct 4 at 12.32 a.m. the 'Ramsøy' caught fire at the fish farming facility in Lausund, near Vigra in Møre og Romsdal. The crew has made it to the fish farming facility in a life raft, which is owned and operated by SalMar. The fire originated in the wheelhouse of the work boat, which was moored at a raft at the fish farm. There was no one on board the boat at that time. The shift manager and two employees at the site discovered the fire. They chose to cut the mooring to prevent it from spreading to the raft. They did not find it advisable or possible to extinguish the fire, but prevented the fire from spreading by cutting the mooring, and then immediately notified the fire department. The raft was taken ashore by the NSSR-lifeboat 'Det Norske Veritas II-RS 154' from Ålesund that arrived at the site at 12.42 a.m. together with the fire department, and where they were being cared for by health services once brought ashore. The service boat drifted aground on the shore, and the fire was extinguished by firefighters and the lifeboat. There were no injuries, but the boat has suffered extensive damage. The HRS SorNorge was coordinating the rescue operation.
