Tanker disabled in Çanakkale Strait

On Aug 5, 2026, at around 5 p.m., the 'Regal 1' was disabled and adrift due to an engine failure during the transit of the Çanakkale Strait off the coast of Gelibolu, while ballasting en route from Alexandria to the Russian port Primorsk. The tanker got assistance by the tug 'Kurtarma 18' (IMO: 9974890) and was safely moored in pos. 40° 35' N 027° 06' E at the Şevketiye Anchorage under the coordination of the Çanakkale RCC Center, where it remained stationary as of Aug 7. Tanker left Novorooyisk after Ukrainian attack

The 'Regal I' left the port of Novorossyisk after Ukrainian aerial and marine drone attacks, which had occurred on Sep 23, 2025. on the morning of Sep 24.The ship was reporting a draft that indicated it was fully loaded. The Aframax-class ship 'Navigator Ridge' (IMO: 9321689) also appeared to have left the port. The Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal and Transneft PJSC’s Sheskharis facility, both located near the city of Novorossiysk, were operational again, after both briefly paused loadings on Sep 23 as a precautionary measure amid the drone attacks in the area. Sirens were heard in Novorossiysk on Wednesday as local authorities warned about imminent attacks by aerial drones and drone boats. Two employees were injured. Operations at the office have been suspended temporarily with employees working remotely.
