Tanker struck by projectile

Mon Jun 29 10:48:08 CEST 2026 Timsen

On June 27, 2026, the 'Kiku' has been struck in the Strait of Hormuz the second attack since the 60-day accord was signed between US and Iran. It had loaded at the Al Shaheen Offshore Terminal in Qatar and was bound for Singapore more than two-million barrels of crude oil on board. The tanker was hit by an unidentified projectile approximately 22 nautical miles off Ras Al Khaimah, while transiting the Strait of Hormuz at 08:00 a.m. UTC. The vessel reported damage on its starboard bridge wing. The damage was desribed as minor, and the tanker was continuing its passage. The vessel’s AIS showed that it was bound for Fujairah. All crew members were safe. No pollution has been reported at present as a result of the attack. The attack on the tanker was followed by several drones launched toward Bahrain. The Bahrain Foreign Ministry reported a number of drones, with Iran contending it was targeting U.S. military installations with defensive strikes. Earlier, Iranian officials had repeated their assertion that “the Strait of Hormuz is governed by Iran, so respect the rules.” CENTCOM forces launched strikes in response. U.S. military aircraft targeted Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities, and minelayer capabilities, while commercial vessel transits through the Strait of Hormuz continued. It ays U.S. forces remained vigilant, lethal, and ready.
