Allision in Elsfleth

On Sep 15, 2026, at approximately 5:10 p.m., the 'Rustica', enroute from Brake towards Oldenburg, allided with the railway bridge in Elsfleth. The vessel's wheelhouse sustained significant damage. The two crew members, who were inside the wheelhouse at the time of the allision, were uninjured. Parts of the wheelhouse were torn off during the collision; however, they did not fall into the water, so shipping traffic remains unaffected. The vessel was able to proceed under its own power to a mooring pile in Elsfleth and was tied up in pos. 53° 14' N 008° 28' E. On Sep 16 it left the port enroute to Tessenderlo with an ETA as of Sep 18. The Bremen Vessel Traffic Service issued a sailing ban. The Brake Water Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. Following the accident, an emergency management team of German Rail inspected the bridge structure. The railway line was temporarily closed during this process.
