Tanker which was damaged by Iran reached Paradip

Fri Jul 03 09:27:30 CEST 2026 Timsen

The 'Sanmar Herald' has finally arrived at the port of Paradip, enroute from the Basrah Oil Terminal, on July 1, after recently having encountered hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz. All crew members were reported safe, but the vessel had suffered damage in the incident. The tanker carried Basrah Medium and Basrah Heavy crude oil from Iraq, when hostilities erupted in the region. Operating in coordination with the Indian Navy, the ship experienced prolonged delays while attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz. Following the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the vessel resumed its voyage.

Three merchant ships attacked in Strait of Hormuz

Sun Apr 19 00:39:29 CEST 2026 Timsen

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported maritime security incidents involving three vessels in the Strait of Hormuz on April 18, 2026. No casualties were reported, and all crew members aboard the vessels are safe. The first incident was reported at 09:20 a.m. UTC, approximately 20 nautical miles northeast of Oman in the Strait of Hormuz, when the captain of the ' Sanmar Herald', carrying about two million barrels crude, reported being approached by two gunboats linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) about 20-25 nautical miles northwest of Oman. The vessels made no contact via VHF radio before opening fire. The Iranian government had already given the 'Sanmar Herald' the permission to pass. A crew member’s distress call was picked up by an audio intercept: “You gave me permission to go… You are firing now!” “Let me go back!” In the call, the crew talked about the IRGC’s naval name, the 'Sepah Navy'. The tanker turned around and headed west.  No injuries or damage were reported. At 11:25 a.m. UTC, a container ship, which was located 25 nautical miles northeast of Oman was struck by an unknown projectile, causing damage to some of the containers. The incident caused no fires or environmental impact in the region. The third incident occurred at around 12:08 p.m. UTC, three nautical miles off the coast of Oman. The bulk carrier ' Jag Arnav' reported sighting a splash in proximity to the ship, which turned around too. In response, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met with Iran’s ambassador at New Delhi, India and conveyed his deep concern regarding the incidents.
