Fire in cargo hold

On July 2, 2026, at 10.32 p.m. a fire broke out aboard the 'Sion Star', loaded with scrap metal, at the Szczecineski Quay in the Port of Gdansk, triggering a large-scale emergency response. 25 fire trucks and 100 firefighters were on the scene. after flames erupted inside the ship's cargo hold and intensified. Before the firefighters arrived, the crew in vain had attempted to extinguish the fire themselves, in accordance with the vessel's internal procedures.
