Cement barge threatened to sink after allision with bridge
On July 17, 2026, at 2:03 a.m., the 'Sjors B', enroute from Amsterdam, being loaded with a cargo of cement, allided with the Hollandse Bridge in Naarden. The foreship was heavily damaged at port side, and the ship was threatened to sink due to significant water ingress in the affected area. The skipper eventually managed to run the vessel intentionally aground on a sandbank near Almere on the Gooimeer just off Almere Haven in pos. 52° 20' N 005° 13' E. Emergency services, including the Naarden Rescue Brigade, the lmere Fire Department, Rijkswaterstaat, the KNRM Blaricum and KNRM Huizen, the Coast Guard and the police attended on site. With over 20 rescuers and 11 pumps, they prevented the cement tanker from filling with water further. The fire department deployed pumps capable of handling a combined volume of approximately 7,000 liters of water per minute to stabilise the ship. On the morning, a plan was drawn up to pump the cement onto another ship, which went alongside and lightered the damaged tanks. By making the 'Sjors B' lighter, the damaged section of the bow rose above the water. A leak sail was pulled over the bow, and a plan was developed where to take the ship, which was handed over to HEBO Maritiem. The fire department could be stood down at noon. The tug 'Lekstroom 1' (MMSI: and the patrol boat 'RWS 25' of Rijkswaterstaat continued to attend the cement tanker, which was then taken to Gooierhoofd.
