Offshore ship caught fire

Sun Sep 06 11:23:45 CEST 2026 Timsen

On July 22, 2026, at 2 a.m., the 'Skandi Logger' broadcast a Mayday call and an order to abandon ship near the 'P-37' platform in the Marlim field of the Campos Basin, after a fire broke out on board. The fire started in the compartment housing the vessel's main engines and generators. It could be quickly brought under control with the assistance of specialised firefighting vessels, preventing the flames from spreading. One of the vessels that provided assistance was the offshore vessel 'Fugro Aquarius' (IMO: 9657698), owned by Fugro. The situation could be brought under control. No injuries or casualties were reported. The vessel was taken in tow by the offshore 'Normand Sagaris' (IMO: 9417828) towards Rio de Janeiro, where it arrived on July 24 and was berthed in Niterói for inspections and surveys, where it remained stationary as of Sep 6. According to the operator DOF, the fire had been caused by an electrical short curcuit in one of the vessel's switchboards.
