Bulk carrier ran aground
The 'Star City' went adrift and ran aground in the area of Chân Mây - Lăng Cô near Hue City in pos. 16° 19' N 107° 59'E amid heavy rainfalls and high swells on Sep 12, 2026. It was carrying approximately 22 tons of diesel fuel and 225 tons of heavy fuel oil. Upon notification, the Thua Thien Hue Port Authority immediately dispatched officials to the scene. They coordinated with the pilot to assist the captain in securing the vessel with seven underwater anchors to prevent it from drifting further. The two tugs 'Quang Da' with 3,263 hp and 'Chan May 2' with 1,800 hp were dispatched to the site, but due to strong winds with force 6–7 and rough seas, they were unable to reach the casualty to attach tow lines. Around 3:00 p.m. that day, the two tugs were forced to return to dock and await more favourable weather conditions. At noon on Sep 13, the ship was successfully refloated. An initial inspection revealed no leaks, as the seabed at the grounding site consisted primarily of sand. The bulk carrier was subsequently moved to a safe anchorage, where the authorities planned to inspect the hull, engines and maritime safety conditions before allowing the vessel to resume its voyage. Earlier, the 9-meter-long fishing boat 'TTH-30115-TS' was sunk by heavy waves and strong winds while moored in the Thuận An fishing port area.
