Somerset becomes Stena Freighter
The' Somerset' was to be transferred from the Luxembourg-based shipping company CLdN to Stena Line at the end of October 2026. The ferry company planned to deploy it on the Dublin-Liverpool route at the beginning of December. As part of these changes, the ferry company will also redeploy its own vessels to the Rotterdam-Harwich route. Before this happens, the 'Somerset' will undergo a shipyard stay, where it will receive repairs and a new coat of paint. From December onward, it will operate as 'Stena Freighter' for the Gothenburg-based company. The vessel was previously operating as a chartered vessel within Stena Line's network. The ship was built in 1999 at the former Flender shipyard in Lübeck and was currently sailing under the Maltese flag. The Stena Line was currently operating the Rotterdam–Harwich route with two chartered vessels, the 'Mistral' from Godby Shipping) and the 'Thuleland' from Wallenius SOL). The charter agreements for these vessels were expiring , and both will be returned to their owners at the end of the year. However, the Rotterdam–Harwich route will continue to be served by two vessels. Stena Line announced that the 'Stena Scotia' and the 'Stena Hibernia' would be reassigned from the Irish Sea and Dublin–Liverpool routes, respectively, and transferred to the Rotterdam–Harwich route. They will be replaced on the Dublin–Liverpool route by the 'Stena Freighter'. The freight service between Dublin and Liverpool will once again be operated by a single vessel, as was the case for most of 2026.
