Allision on the Elbe

The 'Stör', with two crew members on board, allided with a pontoon landing stage in the Stade district (Lat. 53.6261 Lng. 9.5311) on the early morning of April 17, 2026. The vessel had sailed from Beidenfleth on the Elbe near Stadersand on the Stör River around midnight enroute to Hamburg with a cargo of corn. The accident occurred after the captain lost consciousness. It hit the pontoon landing stage between Stadersand and the decommissioned Stade nuclear power plant at around 2:20 a.m. The vessel, which had suffered significant bow damage, initially drifted helplessly in front of the accident site. The Stade district fire department attended with a large contingent of firefighters, the German Life Saving Association (DLRG), and the police responded to the scene too as well as a pilot boat from the Schwinge River was dispatched to the strick vessel. A DLRG (German Life Saving Association) boat transported rescue personnel to the ship to provide medical care to the injured captain. The emergency responders then transported the injured man to Stadersand. From there, he was taken to the Elbe Clinic in Stade. During the night, two tugs, among them the 'Stadersand' (MMSI: 211265240), supported by fire boats and the DLRG, towed the vessel to the port of Bützfleth, where it was examined more closely for damage. In addition to the Drochtersen branch of the German Life Saving Association (DLRG), the Stade and Buxtehude DLRG branches, as well as the Stade and Dornbusch fire departments, were involved in the response.
