Hvaler ferry allided with old post office

The 'Ternen', with five crew members and seven passengers on board, suffered a technical problem and could not be stopped, finally crashing into a building on the island of Herføl in Østfold on Dec 11, 2025, at 9.30 am. The old post office today houses a seasonal shop. The ferry got partially stuck inside the structure in pos. 59° 00' N 011° 03' E. There was some damage to the wall and the roof. The police was notified of the incident by the Main Rescue Center (HRS). There was no official rescue operation underway, while the passengers started to get off the ship, assisted by the crew. There was no danger to the people, and no injuries were reported. The ferry was then to be pulled out by a tug. The operator Norled has suspended the connection until further notice. A patrol was investigating the incident.
