Bodies of four missing fishermen recovered
After the tug 'Suvorovets' (IMO: 7808293) had successfully towed the still smoldering 'Triumf' into the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to enable firefighting operations on Sep 29, shoreside fire teams came aboard and began their extinguishing work, but the mass of the firefighting water began to endanger the vessel's stability and the effort was suspended. Instead, all hatches were sealed and the fire was allowed to burn itself out. The damage inside the ship was extensive. On Sep 30, the responders found that the conditions had improved enough to resume operations, and firefighters began extinguishing the remaining hotspots. A search operation has uncovered the bodies of four still missing crew members in the interior of the vessel. Of the 25 survivors, seven were injured, including two in critical condition. A criminal inquiry has been opened into the case with a focus on possible safety violations by the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Early lines of investigation included a possible fault in the ship's electrical system or an error by the crew. Burning fishing vessel abandoned after fire
On the evening of Sep 25, 2026, a fire broke out on the 'Triumf' in Pacific waters, east of Cape Khodzhelayka, off the coast of Kamchatka. The 29 crew members abandoned ship and took to life rafts. The tanker 'Persey' (IMO: 9544281), after arriving at the scene, rescued 25 people from the rafts and headed to Petropavlovsk and arrived at 06:00 a.m. Kamchatka time. Four crew members were hospitalised. Four people remained missing, including the ship's captain. The tug 'Suvorovets' (IMO: 7808293) departed from Petropavlovsk and headed towards the burning 'Triumf' with a sailing time of about ten hours. A possible electrical equipment malfunction, failure to comply with fire safety standards, and violations of vessel operating procedures were suspected to be behind the fire. A criminal case has been opened regarding the incident. As part of the investigation, officials have questioned crew members, seized all relevant ship documentation, and requested data on the vessel's classification, technical inspections, and the condition of its firefighting equipment. Additionally, two expert assessments—one regarding vessel navigation and another regarding fire safety—have been ordered. Bodies of missing fishermen discovered
On Sep 29, forensic investigators from the Eastern Interregional Investigative Committee's Transport Department have discovered the bodies of the deceased fishermen, among them a trainee from Primorye, from the 'Triumf', who were previously considered missing, when they inspected the vessel. Forensic and genetic examinations were ordered, as well as other investigative actions aimed at establishing the circumstances and causes of the incident. Three main theories regarding the incident were considered: a technical malfunction of the vessel's electrical equipment, a violation of fire safety regulations by the vessel's crew, and a violation of the vessel's technical operation regulations.
