Detained ship put up for sale

Mon Jun 22 17:04:53 CEST 2026 Timsen

The Universal Ltd., has put up the 'Usko MFU' for sale on the Prozorro.Sales platform. The company has acquired the vessel at an auction while it was under seizure, with a starting price of 20 million hryvnias. The auction has been scheduled to take place on June 30. The seller noted that the vessel required repairs. Given that the vessel has been out of service for an extended period, its technical condition has deteriorated, and there was reason to believe that the mechanisms have frozen due to sub-zero temperatures. In Dec 2025, the National Agency of Ukraine for the Identification, Tracing, and Management of Assets Derived from Corruption and Other Crimes (ARMA) sold the vessel through the Prozorro.Sales system. The new owner contributed 6.9 million hryvnias to Ukraine’s state budget. The ship has been detained in July 2024 in the port of Reni i and, at the request of prosecutors, transferred to ARMA’s custody to facilitate its subsequent sale. The ship had illegally entered the closed port of Sevastopol and exported agricultural products through the temporary Russian occupied peninsula. An auction for the sale was scheduled for Nov 25 with a starting price of 2 million 958.9 thousand hryvnias. A previous auction, scheduled for Nov 4, did not take place due to a lack of bidders. At that time, the starting price was 4.958.900 hryvnias. The ship was confiscated in Oct 2024, after units of the Maritime Guard detected a violation of navigation regulations in waters under temporary occupation. The ship’s captain was charged with violating entry procedures into the occupied territories with the intent to harm state interests. It was already the second vessel that a new owner has attempted to resell in the Odesa region. The Alfa Group 77, which purchased the 'Nika Spirit', which was seized in the port of Izmail in the Odesa region, was unable to sell it for nine million hryvnias. The auction failed due to a lack of bidders, even though the starting price had been reduced by three millions. The previous auction, where the starting price was 12 million hryvnias, also failed due to a lack of participants.

Ship confiscated for looting grain from occupied Crimea to be auctioned by Ukraine

Tue Jun 24 11:48:38 CEST 2025 Timsen

Ukraine is planning to sell the 'Ussko MFUÄ, which has been confiscated in 2024 on charges of looting grain from the temporary occupied Crimea, in an attempt to sell seized ships and raise funds to boost its war efforts with Russia. Ukraine’s National Agency for Tracing and Asset Management (ARMA) is trying to find someone to organise the sale of the vessel, which has significant investment potential and is attractive for future commercial use, and for companies which specialise in ship repairs or recycling. The agency will accept proposals until July 4, 2025. It will then choose an auction organiser who will obtain an independent valuation and organise the ship’s sale.

On Oct 8, a Ukrainian court order authorized the confiscation of the 'Usko MFU', which had been initially detained in July for transporting 3000 tons of grain from the Russian occupied Crimea to a Turkish company. Following the detention, the captain and the second officer of the vessel were charged for illegally transporting goods from occupied territories in violation of both Ukrainian and international laws and are facing five years in prison. The ownership of the vessel, which originally belonged to Usko Shipping of Turkey, was transferred to the Ukrainian government.
