Two tankers struck by projectile - two Indian sailors missing
On Oct 11, 2026, the 'Valthera' was struck by an unknown projectile, resulting in a fire onboard. All 11 Indian seafarers onboard the tanker were reportedly safe. The Embassy of India in Muscat was closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the Omani authorities and respective ship management companies to provide all possible assistance to the Indian crew. In a separate case, two Indian sailors went missing, while nine more were rescued by the Omani authorities, after an attack on the 'Petro Dolphin' (IMO: 1072294), after it was targeted by a drone at the Sohar Port anchorage in Oman the same day. Search operations were ongoing amidst growing concern for the sailors' fate, given the escalating risks threatening the safety of vessels and their crews in the region. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has called for an immediate cessation of attacks on commercial vessels, seafarers, and civilian infrastructure. Indian authorities have described the attacks on commercial vessels as deeply concerning and have warned that such actions risk further aggravating an already volatile situation.
