Tanker narrowly escaped attacks on St. Petersburg and makes long detour

While Ukrainian forces launched a major attack on St. Petersburg over the weekend of Oct 17/18, 2026, using hundreds of drones, the 'Vellamo' escaped en route from Ust-Luga near St. Petersburg to Singapore with approximately 100,000 tons of crude oil and an ETA as of Nov 12, and was spotted in the Great Belt off Fehmarn on Oct 17, with nets were stretched over the monkey island with the radio antennas, the funnel, and along the sides of the bridge, being on the top of the Ukrainians' list of potential targets. The tanker, part of the Russian shadow fleet, is on the sanctions lists of the EU, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. The vessel was involved in the transport of oil from Russia and Iran and has already circumvented numerous sanctions. To get the cargo delivered, the vessel was also making a wide detour around EU member states. After leaving the Skagerrak, the captain therefore chose a route through the North Atlantic and set course for Greenland, instead of the English Channel in order to avoid the risk of intervention by the authorities of EU member states in the English Channel. Nine workers injured in explosion

A fire broke out following an explosion in a void tank at the bottom of the pump room of the 'Legend', where shipyard workers were welding the hull, at the Dung Quat Shipyard (DQS) in the Quang Ngai Province, on Nov 3, 2023, at 1.25p.m. LT. Nine workers were burned in the carbon dioxide gas cylinder explosion. A leak oil pipe in the void tank was blamed. The injured were taken to the Quang Nam Central General Hospital in the Quang Nam Province at 2.15 p.m. After being triaged, four were confirmed to have suffered severe burns to over 30 % of their bodies, while the remaining five were burned at lower levels.
