Runaway barge in collision with tanker

A collision occurred on the Canal through South Beveland in the early morning of April 3, 2026, between a tanker and a runaway barge. For unknown reasons, a barge being pushed by the 'Venjo' broke loose. Emergency services received a report of the collision this morning around 08:20 a.m., after which both the police and Rijkswaterstaat went to the scene. The tug was moored at the Kanaalweg. Rijkswaterstaat deployed the patrol vessel 'RWS 75', which came alongside. The National Expertise and Operations Unit (LX) of the police conducted further investigations into the collision.
