Barge allided with Seine bridge
A large number of emergency services responded on the afternoon of Oct 10, 2025, to prevent the front barge of the pushed convoy 'VG' from sinking on the Seine, after it allided with a pillar of the Pont de l’Amitié, the RD 31 road bridge connecting the two banks of the Seine between Ris-Orangis and Draveil in Essonne, at 3 p.m. The Essonne fire department was dispatched to the scene along with Voies Navigables de France and the river brigade. Pumping and sealing operations were started to try to keep the 46-m-front-barge afloat, which was already partially submerged approximately 200 meters downstream from the bridge and 100 meters from the left river bank. The barge was loaded with 700 tons sand and had suffered a large breach in the starboard side bow. The cargo was lightered from the damaged barge within nine hours and the leak brought above the water by this. The Departmental Council, a team from the Department's Mobility and Infrastructure Directorate, was on site to conduct a technical assessment of the bridge. No vehicle traffic disruptions were reported, but the river traffic was interrupted in both directions during the operations.
