Helicopter carrier seized 885 kg cocaine

On Novc 4, 2023, under the direction of the maritime prefect of the Atlantic and the public prosecutor of Brest, the 'Mistral' seized 885 kg of cocaine on a fishing boat off the coast of West Africa. The OFAST had requested the intervention of the French Navy, in the light of information transmitted by its Brazilian, American and British partners. Supported by an NH90 helicopter, a drone and two Gazelle helicopters on board the 'Mistral' were launched. The operation was initiated on the basis of Article 110 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (Montego Bay), and resulted in the discovery of narcotics. In total, 885 kilograms of cocaine were discovered on board, then transhipped onto the Amphibious Helicopter Carrier to be destroyed. The 15 meter long fishing boat had left the South American coast a few days earlier.
