Passenger ship assisted troubled boat
The crew of the megayacht 'Launchpad' (IMO: 9857511) owned by billionaire Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg, did not hear a radio distress call from a 21-ft-boat, that had run out of fuel between Petersburg and Juneau on Aug 3, 2026 at 9.30 p.m. By the time they finally heard it, another nearby vessel, the 'Wilderness Legacy', had already come to the boat's aid. It had sent a distress call through the U.S. Coast Guard before. At approximately 9:56 p.m., the Coast Guard issued a marine assistance request broadcast on their behalf. Despite being closer, Zuckerberg's yacht had not responded to the call. The 'Wilderness Legacy' sailed around and past the 'Launchpad', stopped at the apparent position of the boat and then towed it into the sheltered Farragut Bay, where it could be refuled. Mark Zuckerberg and his family were not on board the at the time of the incident. The 'Launchpad' had been in Southeast Alaska for much of the summer.
