Excursion boat on fire - all 25 people on board resued

All 25 people abord the 'Yasawa Princess' were safely rescued on the evening of Dec 24, 2025, after the ship caught fire near Kuda‑anbara in the Vaavu Atoll three miles off Kuda‑anbara at around 5:54 p.m. MDNF and police officers rushed to the scene and evacuated all passengers and crew members from board. The rescued tourists included five men and 12 women, while the crew comprised three Indians, five Bangladeshi men, and one German national. The fire had not yet been fully extinguished as of thr night, and the vessel had suffered severe burn damage. MDNF and police officers remained on site as efforts continued to contain the blaze. The authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported among the rescued. The cause of the fire remained unknown, and an investigation was underway.
