Disabled tanker towed to Turkey
On the early morning of June 28, 2026, the 'YM Jupiter', enroute from Eleusis with 17 crew members on board - all Turkish nationals - and carrying 5,000 metric tons of petroleum products, was disabled and adriftnear Alonissos following an engine failure northeast of the islet of Psathoura. The Greek-flagged salvage vessel 'Aigaion Pelagos' (IMO: 9477012) was deployed to assist and successfully established a towing connection with the tanker. It could be safely pulled away from the coast, so that there was no longer an immediate danger to the safety of navigation in the area. During the towing operation, the JRCC of the Greek Coast Guard issued a notification to mariners warning, calling on passing vessels to maintain heightened vigilance. The tanker was towed to Boczaada, whiere it was moored in pos. 39° 48' N 025° 58' E on June 29 at 10 a.m. UTC. The port authorities imposed an administrative sanction, because the captain did not immediately inform as required by applicable procedures, when the damage occurred. The 'YM Jupiter' remained stationary at its mooring as of June 30.
