Fire on tankship in Hoek van Holland

Emergency services were deployed on Aug 29, 2026, to respond to a fire aboard the ' Zeeland' on the New Waterway in Hoek van Holland. At approximately 11:53 a.m, the fire department, the KNRM, and the Port of Rotterdam Authority, among others, were alerted to the Priority 1 incident: "Fire – Shipping (tanker)." The KNRM lifeboat 'Jeanine Parqui' was dispatched from Hoek van Holland, and the local fire department was also called out urgently. Upon the KNRM boat's arrival, it was determined that the fire had broken out in the engine room. Multiple units and resources were deployed for the response operation. The lifeboat ferried firefighting equipment and personnel back and forth. The patrol vessels 'RPA 10' and 'RPA 16' of the Port Authority also assisted in the operation. A second inland vessel had immediately moored alongside the 'Zeeland' to help keep it on course. Additionally, two tugs stood by to provide support if needed. Following a joint effort, the situation was brought under control. The ' Zeeland' was brought into the petrol port of Rotterdam, and the emergency response was concluded.
