At least two cargoes of gasoil and diesel recently departed from Russia have been monitored as potentially heading towards the US Atlantic Coast. Product tanker Leruo changed the intended destination for its gasoil cargo loaded from the key Baltic Russian port of Primorsk from its original destination of Itaqui in Brazil to “Atlantic Coast for orders” – often a term used to refer to shipping activity on the US’ eastern seaboard – with a new ETA of November 11. As well as the Leruo, product tanker Agioi Fanendes was monitored leaving Primorsk on October 23 and declaring New York as its intended destination, ETA November 7. While port agent information confirmed the Leruo as carrying gasoil, no such information was as yet available for Agioi Fanendes, although Primorsk has in the past only ever exported either crude or GO/ULSD. Other recent Primorsk GO/ULSD departures have declared heading to Port Said, Turkey and Gibraltar, the latter likely a waypoint for the cargo rather than its final destination.

Laden product tankers frequently announce changes to their intended destination via AIS while en route, including possibly of the vessels mentioned above; Wood Mackenzie tracks any such destination changes via Vesseltracker and publishes them daily to subscribers to its European Waterborne Products Report (EWP), soon to be renamed Waterborne Products Report (WPR).
