One seafarer dead in Russian drone attack

Mon Sep 14 20:51:36 CEST 2026 Timsen

The 'Agn Ragnar', with ten people on board, which had joined the fleet of the Istanbul-based AGN Ship Management in October 2025, was struck by three Russian drones, while sailing outbound through the Bystre Channel after departing from the port of Sulina at the Danube's northern mouth on July 25, 2026. Two Indian crew members, identified by Indian maritime authorities as Chandra Ram Dubey and Deepak Kumar Gupta, went over the side during the attack. They remained missing. Seven Turkish survivors and the local pilot were evacuated by Ukraine's Coastguard with three sailors being reported as injured. Further SAR operations to look for the two missing men had to be called off due to the ongoing risk of Russian strikes. The local authorities plan to pick up the search again when the threat has passed. After the attack, a fire broke out on the vessel, causing extensive damage to the accommodation area and the bridge. In response to a distress call, the tug 'Ramazan Bey' (IMO: 7210824) from the PGE Tugs & Salvage fleet, deployed to the area. After the necessary safety preparations were completed, the ship was taken under tow and safely transported to the Port of Zonguldak via the Black Sea, in order to discharge the cargo and transfer the vessel to a shipyard for repairs, once the formalities between the shipowner and the cargo owner have been concluded. In the past, the 'Agn Ragnar' was frequently cited with deficiencies in port state control inspections, including serious issues, like hull corrosion and fire safety shortcomings. Indian still missing

Fri Jul 31 18:31:05 CEST 2026 Timsen

An Indian sailor went missing after the drone strike on the 'Agn Ragnar'. The seafarer Ram Chandra had joined the merchant navy recently and was on only his second overseas assignment, having left for duty in September 2025. Despite rescue efforts and repeated appeals to authorities, there has been no sign of the young sailor since the July 25 attack. Ram Chandra, a resident of Nibi Kala village in Jhunsi, Prayagraj, is the younger son of retired serviceman Ramesh Chandra Dubey. He had joined the merchant navy recently and was on only his second overseas assignment, having left for duty in September last year. He last spoke to his mother, Kalpana Dubey, on the night of July 24. During the conversation, he told her that his ship had departed from Ukraine. As the attack unfolded, the Indian sailors jumped into the sea in an attempt to escape. Ukrainian rescue teams launched an immediate search operation and managed to rescue two of the Indian crew members. ARSVOM rescue ship involved in search for missing seafarers

Tue Jul 28 12:11:34 CEST 2026 Timsen

The rescue ship 'SAR Apollo' from the Romanian Agency for Maritime Human Life Saving (ARSVOM) has been dispatched on a mission to search for the two sailors Ram Dubay and Deebak Kumar Gupta, who fell over board from the 'Agn Ragnar' in the Sulina area on July 26 at 10:27 by the MRCC of the Romanian Naval Authority, but were meanwhile reported as rescued by the local authorities. The cargo ship had been attacked and abandoned while destined for the port of Galați. The SAR operation continued as of July 27. Recently the SAR ship was involved in the evacuation of the LPG tanker 'Gas Lisbon' (IMO: 9267974) after it was damaged by a drone attack, and assistance to the freighter 'Christina B' (IMO: 9304162). The Indian Embassy in Ukraine was closely monitoring the situation, as the ship had four Indian crew members on board, out of whom only two have been found to be safe, while information about other two nationals was awaited. The Embassy was in constant touch with the concerned authorities. Report with photo: https://www.armenews.com/la-russie-frappe-un-navire-turc-en-mer-noire/
