Medevac off Mallorca

A medical emergency occured on the 'Aida Cosma' during a Mediterranean cruise, en route from La Spezia to Ibiza on Aug 12. Those in charge decided to get the person in need of assistance ashore as quickly as possible for further medical treatment. After consulting with the relevant authorities on land, a helicopter was requested. Around 4:30 p.m., the bridge crew reduced speed northwest of Mallorca and coordinated the course and speed with the helicopter crew. The helicopter hoisted the patient, and some of the ship's exterior areas were temporarily closed for the emergency response. Around 45 minutes later, the 'Aida Cosma' resumed its course and continued on its original route. The ship was on a week-long "To the Solar Eclipse in the Mediterranean" cruise from Aug 8 to 15 from Palma de Mallorca, stopping in Corsica and La Spezia, then Ibiza and Barcelona, before returning to Mallorca.

The Cagliari Coast Guard coordinated the medical evacuation of a 58-year-old German passenger from the 'AIDACosma', who was suffering from a suspected acute pancreatitis, while the ship was sailing between Cagliari and Civitavecchia, on June 23. The alarm was raised at 6:50 p.m. when the ship was approximately eight nautical miles southeast of Capo Carbonara. A helicopter took off from Decimomannu. It hoisted the patient and transported him to the Brotzu Hospital in Cagliari. On March 25 at 2:00 a.m., the crew of the SAR boat 'Salvamar Denébola' arrived in Algeciras with a passenger from the 'Aida Cosma', enroute from Cadíz to Alcante, who required medical treatment in hospital, so that a medevac was requested by the cruise ship. The response was coordinated by the CCS of Salvamento Marítimo in Tarifa and the Algeciras Civil Protection agency
