On the afternoon of Oct 18, 2026, the ferry 'Superspeed 1' (IMO: 9374519), enroute from Kristiansand to Hirtshals, and the 'AIDANova', enroute from Kiel to Bergen, responded to the burning Danish fishing vessel 'Nordlys - RI 317' (MMSI: 219001518), with four people on board, in the middle of the Skagerrak. The fishermen had abandoned the blazing ship onto a liferaft. Rescue helicopters were sent out from both Norway and Denmark. The helicopter from Sula was on scene at 3.23 p.m. The JRCC for Southern Norway coordinated the response. The fishermen were taken on board a light boat from the cruise ship at 3.30 p.m. None of them were injured. They stayed aboard the 'Aidanova' on its way to Bergen, where it arrived on Oct 19 short past 8 a.m., as scheduled. The 'Superspeed 1' was released after the intervention of the 'AIDANova' and reached the port of destination with a delay of 1,5 hours. Although the incident took place in Norwegian waters—with the Norwegian coastal rescue service leading the operation—the Danish Defence also contributed to the rescue mission and deployed one of the helicopters involved. Call at Flåm skipped due to Azipod problems
The 'AIDAnova', on a one-week cruise to Norway, sailing a round-trip from Kiel, suffered issues with the Azipod propulsion at the first port of the voyage, Bergen, after arriving on June 29, 2026. As a result of the technical issues, the ship was unable to depart Bergen at the scheduled time of 5:30 p.m. and had to remain in the port overnight. External assistance was required to resolve the problem, as it could not be fixed using the ship's own resources. While repairs were underway, passengers were able to go ashore in Bergen again ob July 30. The guests were kept fully and transparently informed on board regarding the situation and the next steps. Shortly after 6:00 p.m. with a delay of 24 hours and 30 minutes—the 'AIDAnova' departed the port of Bergen. The ship set a course for Ålesund, with an ETA as if July 1. The call at Flåm, originally planned for June 30, had to be cancelled.
Medevac off Ameland
On the evening of Nov 7, the 'AIDAnova' request rfa helicopter from the Netherlands for an emergency medical evacuation, en route from Southampton, UK, to Hamburg after a day at sea, as medical treatment could not wait until arrival at the next port. In close consultation between the ship's doctors and the nautical crew, the decision was made to medevac the patient by helicopter, whichapproached the ship a few nautical miles north of the island of Ameland. The 'AIDAnova 'reduced its speed to about ten knots to allow for the transfer to the helicopter. As is standard procedure, decks 16 to 18 were completely closed off. Without a significant delay, the ship continued its voyage towards the Elbe estuary, docking at the Steinwerder Cruise Center in Hamburg on the early morning of Nov 8 for passenger changeover.
