Ferry detained in Ibiza

Thu Jul 16 11:46:26 CEST 2026 Timsen

The pilot program to transport waste generated in Ibiza to the Son Reus incinerator plant in Mallorca has encountered another setback, this time related to the chosen mode of transport. According to Luis Gascón, the maritime captain of Ibiza and Formentera, the 'Al Andalus Express', supposed to transport the waste, has been immobilised for safety reasons at one of the docks in Es Botafoc in Ibiza, from where it was scheduled to depart on July 15, 2026, at 6 p.m. en route to the port of Palma, where it was expected to arrive at midnight.

Ferry sidelined due to crankshaft failures

Thu May 28 11:49:34 CEST 2026 Timsen

The “Al Andalus Express” suffered propulsion problems and was sidelined in Algeciras indefinitely on May 14, 2026. The ferry initally experienced a crankshaft failure in the port side main engine, and then in the starboard main engine. The Armas Trasmediterránea Group had a freight contract with DFDS to reinforce the Algeciras-Tangier Med route. The ferry remained stationary as of May 28.

Deadline for bids has been set

Tue Apr 24 09:06:35 CEST 2012 Timsen

The deadline for sealed bids to acquire the vessels of collapsed cross-Channel ferry operator SeaFrance, whose assets are now in the hands of the liquidator, has been set for Maxy 4, 2012. The ships in question are the "Nord Pas de Calais" ex "Seafrance NPC", "Seafrance Rodin" and "Seafrance Berlioz" which have an estimated combined value of up to €150 million. A source close to the sale process told IFW a bankruptcy judge is scheduled to deliver his verdict by the middle of next month. In the event of a bid being accepted, the transfer of vessels to the new owner would very likely be completed by the beginning of June, the source added. Late last month, he revealed that Eurotunnel, P&O and DFDS were due to make further inspections of the vessels.
