Kuwait’s Al Kout named 2014 world’s top tanker

Wed Dec 31 08:26:36 CET 2014 arnekiel

Al Kout was termed as the most “environmental, piracy protected and proven” in the world by the Maritime Reporter and Engineering News magazine. Not only does the choice reflect full commitment to the highest levels of safety and security on board KOTC tankers, but also the company’s dedication to its responsibilities as a national and a strategic carrier, CEO Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-Sabah told KUNA. This is realized through firm operational procedures and adoption of the highest quality in terms of security and safety, Sheikh Talal added, congratulating the company’s staff for their sincere efforts and hard work raising it to the rank of the world’s leading firms in the field. Meanwhile, KOTC said in an inclusive statement to KUNA that it had received the giant Al Kout, built in South Korea, last October, with a length of 333 meters and a width of 60 metres.

Leading classification society ClassNK (Chairman and President: Noboru Ueda) announced that it has completed work on the 165,178GT VLCC Al Kout, built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. The Al Kout was officially delivered to KOTC at a ceremony held at KOTC Head Office in Kuwait on 30 October 2014. The VLCC series is also the first in the ClassNK registry to comply with the Performance Standard for Protective Coatings (PSPC) requirements for Cargo Oil Tanks of Crude Oil Tankers.
