Beached as Dead Vessel towed by Tug Bozok

Ship refloated and towed to Aliağa

Mon Jul 20 11:17:38 CEST 2026 Timsen

After the cargo of 1775 tons ammonium nitrate was lightered with assistance of a Sennebogen excavator onto the ferry 'Bahri Reis 3' (IMO: 11519838) since July 7, the 'Ninova' could finally be refloated off Karasu on July 11. The unloading operation had started on July 7. The cargo was then transported to Karasu Port in six trips. The fertiliser was taken to the port of Karasu aboard the ferry. After the unloading and transportation process was completed, work began to move the ship, and Coastguard teams took security measures in the area. A chain and rope, attached to a ship anchor located approximately 250 meters from the ship and 500 meters from the shore, were used to turn the bow of the 'Ninova' towards the open sea by operating a generator-powered pulley, 71 days after its grounding on May 1. It was relocated to a safe distance from the shore. After the salvage operation, comprehensive technical inspections were carried out on the ship. Damage assessment work was completed through hull inspections conducted by diving teams, and necessary repair and reinforcement operations were also performed. Following these activities, a Backup Navigation Report was prepared, granting approval for the safe transportation of the vessel by sea. On May 16 the ship was finally taken in tow by the tug 'Bozok' (IMO: 271010014), enroute to breakers in Aliağa.
