Dredger disabled off Wangerooge
On Sep 10, 2026, volunteer lifeboat crew members from Wangerooge assisted the 'Anke', that had lost the ability to maneuver. The vessel had suffered an engine failure just outside the Wangerooge harbour entrance. Although it managed to maintain its position reasonably well using its suction pipe, it urgently needed assistance to avoid being swept away and running aground in the strong outgoing tide. The volunteer rescuers deployed the 'Fritz Thieme'; using this roughly ten-meter-long daughter boat, they took the dredger—which was nearly five times its length—in tow and succeeded in towing the 'Anke' into the port and securing it alongside the pier.
