Tanker damaged while loading in Novorossiysk in Ukrainian attack
The 'Arlan' and the 'Rodos' were loading oil in Novorossiysk on Nov 16, as the port resumed operating following a two-day suspension triggered by a Ukrainian missile and drone attack. The ''Arlan' was damaged by shrapnels on its deck and the accomodation block. No one was injured, and the damage hastily covered. The damages were, however, still visible when the tanker transitee the Bosphorus on Dec 2. On the afternoon Novorossiysk had temporarily suspended oil exports – equivalent to 2.2 million barrels per day, or 2% of global supply – on nov 14. The Ukrainian attack damaged two oil berths at Novorossiysk in the most damaging Ukrainian attack to date on Russia’s main Black Sea crude export infrastructure. The attack on Novorossiysk came after months of Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian refineries, oil depots and pipelines. Russian crude oil shipments via Novorossiysk’s Sheskharis terminal totalled 3.22 million tonnes a day in October. A total of 1.794 million tonnes of oil products were exported through Novorossiysk in October.
