Damaged tanker transited Bosphorus

Tue Aug 18 16:24:52 CEST 2026 Timsen

On Aug 18, the "Asia" transited the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul under tow of several tugs and tight security measures, following the recent drone attack it sustained while at the Russian CPC terminal. The Turkish authorities temporarily suspended maritime traffic in the strait to secure the unloaded tanker's passage and ensure its safe transit.

Two tankers damaged at CPC terminal

Tue Jul 21 09:44:40 CEST 2026 Timsen

Both the 'Asia' and 'Nissos Ios' (IMO: 9886770) were attacked at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal off Russia’s Black Sea coast, CPC said on July 19, 2026. The oil loadings were suspended. Both tankers were attacked during loading operations, The 'Asia' caught fire, which was extinguished. There were no injuries or fatalities amongst CPC staff or contractors. There was no oil spill, and the tankers remained afloat. Kazakhstan’s energy ministry said that the Single Point Mooring (SPM) facilities, SPM-1 and SPM-3, were not damaged. Crude oil loading operations at the terminal have been suspended pending a full assessment of the consequences of the incident. Shortly after the operations at the terminal were resumed, also the tanker 'Nelsa' (IMO: 9408205) was struck on July 20. The projectile hit the tanker between the superstructure and the engine room. A significant fire resulted, forcing the 22 crew members to be evacuated onto CPC tugs. It took several hours to bring the fire on the tanker under control. The 'Nelsa' was sanctioned by the UK in 2024 and the EU in 2025 for its role in the Russian oil trade.
