Cracks in hull discovered

Thu Dec 09 10:39:27 CET 2021 Timsen

Cracks have been discovered in the hull of the 'Balmoral', one of the new ships replacing the old Manly ferries on Sydney Harbour. The defects were found last week, it was confirmed on Dec 7, 2021. An independent maritime surveyor was investigating the defects. His report found the welding defects were minor and isolated, and did not compromise the overall structural integrity of the vessel. The 'Balmoral' returned to service on Dec 6 after it was trialled that morning. The news ferries are reportedly unable to safely carry passengers across Sydney Harbour in large swells.
