Grounded bulk carrier has become a popular tourist spot

Mon Jun 08 11:20:42 CEST 2026 Timsen

Nearly four years after its grounding on Sep 19, 2022,, the 'Blueways' has now become a popular tourist spot for photography and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Weihai City, Shandong Provinc. After the 25 crew members were safely brought ashore by rescue teams, it was believed the 'Blueways' would soon be refloated, but the vessel remained stranded since. Photos of the 'Blueways' quickly went viral on Chinese social media. Many tourists flocked to Weihai. From a place previously absent from traditional tourist guides, the city has gradually become a popular destination for photography and exploration enthusiasts. The 'Blueways' also got on the itineraries of many Vietnamese travelers visiting Weihai. Vietnam offers convenient direct flights to Weihai, taking approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes. From the airport, tourists then need to allow nearly two additional hours to reach the area where the ship was resting.
