Barge damaged in grounding incident

Sun Jul 26 00:01:20 CEST 2026 Timsen

On July 24, 2026, the tugs 'CMS Warrior' (IMO: 9765184) and 'Bravo' were deployed to refloat the barge 'S' Gravenzande', 3405 dwt (EU- No. 02316418), which had run aground at 4 p.m. near Hansweert along with three other barges and a pusher tug on the Westerscheldt side. As it was low tide, the two tugboats were deployed to hold the damaged barge in position near the western breakwater. Emergency services and Rijkswaterstaat first uncoupled the three undamaged barges, which were immediately towed away. Emergency crews then focused on the final barge. At 9:45 p.m., they succeeded in safely towing this barge to the port of Hansweert as well. The extent of the damage to the pusher tug was being assessed at the port.
