Medevac off Madeira

Tue Oct 20 12:13:19 CEST 2026 Timsen

A male passenger of the 'Britannia' suffered a medical emergency on the afternoon of Oct 19, while the ship was sailing north of Madeira. The Port Captain of Funchal confirmed that he may have suffered a stroke. The Portuguese Air Force’s EH-101 Merlin helicopter was mobilised for a medical evacuation. After the rescue, the aircraft landed at the Madeira International Airport, where the passenger was met by a fire brigade, which ensured the transport to a hospital.

Medevac off Faro Sabinal

Wed Aug 05 09:44:37 CEST 2026 Timsen

On Aug 4, 2026, the medical evacuation of a passenger was requested by the 'Britania', enroute from Cadiz to Ibiza, while the ship was sailing 23 nautical miles southeast of Faro Sabinal. The SAR helicopter Helimer 221 was mobilised by the CCS Almería of Salvamento Marítimo for this task. The patient was hoisted on board along with a companion. Both were taken to the Almería Airport, where an ambulance was waiting for the further transport to a hospital for medical care on a higher level. The cruise ship continued on its way with an ETA as of Aug 5.

Cruise ship altered itinerary after power outage

Wed Jan 07 12:28:25 CET 2026 Timsen

The 'Britannia' has diverted to its base port in Barbados following a power outage during its current cruise in Curaçao on Dec 30, 2025. The ights went out before backup systems restored electricity about 30 minutes later. The ship had departed Bridgetown, Barbados, on Dec 26, 2025 for a 14-night ‘New Year in the Caribbean Islands’ itinerary, calling at Grenada on Dec 28 and Curaçao on Dec 30. The ship then skipped a planned call in Aruba and, on Jan 3, 2026, the passengers were informed that the 'Britannia' would bypass St Lucia, where it had been scheduled to spend two days, and instead sail directly to Barbados. P&O Cruises said on Jan 5 that repairs were nearing completion and sailing would resume that evening. Fixing the technical issue required land-based support and so the ship berthed in Barbados. After the defect was rectified, the 'Britannia' berthed in Martinique on Jan 5 and in St Maarten on Jan 6 as scheduled.
