Medevac off Port Hardy
A passenger experiencing a medical emergency aboard the 'Celebrity Solstice', which was sailing approximately 200 kilometres northwest of Port Hardy, was airlifted to safety by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) on the early morning of Sep 12, 2026. The rescue operation was carried out by the RCAF’s 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron, based at 19 Wing Comox, under the direction of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Victoria. RCAF crews responded before dawn using a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter and a CC-295 Kingfisher aircraft. The Cormorant helicopter arrived at the vessel first, allowing crews to coordinate the medical evacuation with the cruise ship’s captain. Two SAR technicians were then lowered onto the ship’s deck to prepare the patient for extraction. The passenger, along with a companion and medical personnel, was subsequently hoisted into the hovering helicopter and transported to Comox. Upon its arrival, the patient was transferred to BC Emergency Health Services and taken to hospital for further medical treatment. Medevac off Oahu
The US Coast Guard and the Navy medevaced an ailing passenger from the ' Celebrity Solstice' about 58 nautical miles off Oahu on April 23, 2026. The Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu watchstanders received a notification on April 22 at 3:19 p.m. from the cruise ship, requesting a medevac for a passenger experiencing a serious medical condition. After conferring with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac, watchstanders established regular communications with the vessel’s crew to monitor the patient's status as the 'Celebrity Solstice' proceeded toward Oahu. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point hoisted the 78-year-old man and brought him safely to Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. The man was in stable condition. An MH-60 Seahawk helicopter from the Navy Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 37 provided communications and aerial overwatch for the Coast Guard crew during the medevac. Search for woman who fell over board suspended
The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for a 40-year-old woman who fell overboard from the 'Celebrity Solstice' in the morning of May 17, 2022, near Eldred Rock in the upper Lynn Canal. The captain of the ship reported the incident after a cruise ship camera showed the woman going overboard at approximately 3 a.m. as the ship sailed from Juneau to Skagway. The search lasted about nine hours and included a helicopter from Sitka, a response boat from Juneau and the crew aboard the Coast Guard Cutter 'Chandeleur', based in Valdez. The negative results, coupled with an estimated survival time of 6.19 hours in the water, led the Coast Guard to suspend the search. The cruise ship was on the fourth day of a week-long round-trip cruise from Seattle.
