Tank exploded in raid on Ras Isa
The 'Clipper', with 27 crew membes on board, among them 24 Pakistanis, including Captain Mukhtar Akbar; two Sri Lankans; one Nepali, was hit during an Israeli strike on Houthi-controlled ports in Yemen on Sep 17, 2025, at a berth at Ras Isa. That raid has partially sunk one other vessel and may have disabled another; it also destroyed most of the remaining wharfage in the port. One of the 'Clipper''s LPG tanks exploded in the attack. The fire was extinguished after a hard fight of four days but the leakage of the gas was still on, according to the crew member Murad Ali, who was working as a trainee wiper and mechanic onboard. Following the blast, Houthi boat crews responded to the scene and boarded the ship, and, according to some reports, then took the crew hostage. In another version, the crew had abandoned ship but were forced by Houthi militants to reboard the vessel while it was still burning. The equipment aboard were unsuitable for firefighting. After the intervention from the Pakistani ambassador to Oman, the government of Saudi Arabia, and members of Pakistan's security agencies, the crew was released, and all of them were now out of Houthi territory. The LPG carrier was formerly named 'Eagle Pride' and fraudulently claims to fly the flag of Guyana, making it a stateless vessel. The ship was reported sold to an undisclosed interest in 2023, and the current owner and operator are unknown; The tanker is subject to U.S. counterterrorism sanctions. The 'Clipper' had sailed from Djibouti on Sep 4, arriving Ras Isa on Sep 6. The damaged vessel was granted permission to leave the waters of Ghubb Dignaw and was underway to Djibouti on Sep 29.
