On the late evening of Jan 19, 2026, a fire broke out in the engine room of the 'CSL Thames', which was berthed at the South Quay in the port of Emden. The Larrelt Volunteer Fire Department responded with a large contingent. Upon arrival, they discovered that the fire had started in a generator, but it had already been extinguished by the ship's own fire extinguishers. A team of firefighters wearing breathing apparatus boarded the ship to inspect the vessel; no further firefighting was necessary. In the meantime, the volunteer fire brigade Emden-Borssum deployed a reserve team equipped with breathing apparatus and established hygiene protocols at the scene. The whole operation was concluded after nearly an hour.Involved were the professional fire brigade Emden, the ship fire unit, the local fire brigades of Borssum, Widdelswehr/Petkum and Uphusen/Marienwehr, the breathing apparatus emergency group, the communications group with the command vehicle and the rescue service. The ship, had arrived from the Mibau Stema quarry in Jelsa on Jan 19 at around 12.30 p.m. The Emden Water Police has launched an investigation into the accident. According to initial findings, a technical defect was suspected to have caused the fire. The maritime safety authority has issued a prohibition on further sailing pending confirmation by the relevant classification society. On Jan 22 the ship left the port again enroute to Halvsik with an ETA as of Jan 23. Report with photo: https://www.oz-online.de/artikel/1625763/Grossaufgebot-der-Feuerwehr-im-Emder-Hafen
