Medevac off Hô Chi Minh City
The Vietnam MRCC coordinated the medevac of a crew member of the 'Demter Leader', who was suffering from symptoms suggestive of acute coronary syndrome, and transported him to Ho Chi Minh City for urgent medical treatment on Oct 30, 2026. At 9:20 a.m., the ship had issued a distress call enroute from Japan to Singapore south of Vietnam. A crew member had suddenly experienced persistent pain in the left side of his chest, accompanied by difficulty breathing and a headache. According to the medical assessment conducted by International SOS, the sailor was likely experiencing acute coronary syndrome (ACS), with a risk of myocardial infarction. His condition required an urgent evacuation to a hospital. As his condition temporarily worsened, he was given supplemental oxygen. The captain then requested the intervention of the Vietnamese authorities to arrange for his medevac. Upon receiving the alert, the MRCC activated rescue procedures, requested remote medical assistance, and guided the crew in performing initial first aid. Under the direction of the Vietnam Maritime and Inland Waterways Administration, the rescue vessel 'SAR 272', based in Phuoc Thang Ward, ô Chi Minh-City, was dispatched to the scene with two doctors on board. On Oct 31 at 3:21 the patient was disembarked at the Central Wharf in Phuoc Thang Ward and transferred to the hospital for emergency treatment.
